Hey! I’m about to leave to Vegas! Yay! Being from Southern California, I’m fortunate vegas is only a hop skip away. But this is no ordinary vegas trip, this is a Poker Run! The Rio Resort keep sending my buddy Andrew complimentary rooms, buffets, shows, etc.. He took them up on the offer. It’s a great deal. We’re getting 3 nights at teh Paris H otel for free, 2 Free buffet coupon, half off the Rio’s Seafood buffet and complimentary tickets to Improv show. The best part of it all, drunk people playing poker with expendable cash. The worst part, I’m very low rolled to be playing deep stack NL. I’m all packed and ready to go. Wait for the trip report to see how it all goes.

Hello. i want to keep this blog updated with my poker progress but I keep neglecting it. So here another attempt at it. In case anybody actually read my blog, a lot has changed. In my personal Life, I moved to an apartment. It’s a 2bed/2bath apartment. The 2nd bedroom I’m using it as my playroom/poker room. Because of my move, I don’t have a ton of disposable income like I use to, therefore moving to the online microNL games makes a lot of sense with my tiny bankroll. I don’t got a working digital camera, but once I get one I’ll post a picture.
Now on to Poker. I’ve decided to stop playing live poker at Hawaiian Gardens. There was a variety of reasons for it. I feel there more room to learn and grow as a student of the game by playing online. When I’m at the table in a live game after a session, I can only remember a few key hands. Even then I don’t remember all the details, mostly my opponents exact stack size. The live games here in southern california are designed to be very volatile and favors the beginner. This is largely due to the buy-in amounts. I was playign the $40 buy-ins with blinds at $1/$2 regularly. The game designed to m ake you a short stack and be aggressive right from the start. Even when you get to the point where you ‘ve got 100bb, your opponents generally have only 20bb - 40bb. I tent to treat these games as a pre-flop and flop only decision games.
I’m mostly a Linux guy. Except for using Windows at work, all my systems at home are linux. Recently I installed Windows onto one of my box. I know it goes against my anti-microsoft philosophy, but I had to do it to make sure all the poker software are running correctly. I also purchased Holdem Manager, which so far is awesome. I’m stilling trying to set it up exactly the way I want it. My computer all setup to play poker. Watch out microNL here I come.

Well……I’ve been playing too much poker lately. I’m beginning to think I play just to play and not play to win. When I’m up I don’t seem to want to leave the table. Thoughts of me being able to win more enter my mind. I tent to believe I’m better than all if not most of the other players at the table, it’s just sometimes the cards don’t go my way. I’ve expressed to Sharmaine how important having a bankroll is to the game. Well she’s decided to hold me to it. Sharmaine has limit my playing to only money from within my bankroll. Since I’ve long depleted my bankroll (thru poker and other things) I now have to start building a new one. This time this bankroll will only be solely for poker. The wins will be for poker the losses will be poker losses. I’m beginning to understand the importance of keeping poker money and personal money separate. It’ll be a few months before I accumulate enough money in the bankroll to play again.
To get myself back into the action as soon as possible, I’m going to have to drop down a few levels. I’m thinking 2/4 a loose enough level to re-tool my game. The bankroll required small enough that I could accumulate in a span of two months.
Level $2/$4
Bankroll required: 200×4 = $800
January - $400
February - $400
I’ve read ideally a player would need 300bb to never go broke. I’m going to try it with a 200bb bankroll. We’ll see.

I went back for more poker. Yep I’m definitely an addict. I was playing poker, and there was a Cambodian guy who sat down with his wife. I’ve played with him a few times before, and he usually tells his wife different things he notice in Cambodian. Myself being a keen poker player and Cambodian, I was able to casually listen in on his conversation. Hey every little edge I can get, after all it is a poker game. Well, it so happened that today they were talking shit about me. Neither one of them realized I was a Cambodian. My eyes are a little more slanted than a normal Cambodian would have. I decided to let them know I can understand. They were both shocked and it got them to stop talking shit (about me at least).
I play just like you do, except you’re a little more aggressive” - Old Cambodian Man
What the older Cambodian Man said to me got me thinking. From watching his plays, he is rather aggressive, makes me think i’m being overly aggressive, maybe even loose aggressive. Then what happened next got me thinking even more. 3players limped in and the 4th player made it 2bets to the Older Cambodian Man…he called……and a few other players called the 2bet…i believe it was 5handed to the flop. What came on the flop doesn’t really matter much, what does matter is that the Old Cambodian Man flopped a set. At the showdown I remember telling him.
You don’t play like me, I wouldn’t call 2bets with a small pocket pair - Newbie too tight Me
Hmmmm, came home and ponder about calling small pocket pairs for 2bets..maybe even for 3bets? With 5players in the hand and paying 2bets for the flop not too bad. This is definitely a leak in my game. Calling cold bets preflop isn’t that bad of a play. If i don’t hit a set I can easily let go. I’m not exactly trapped nor dominated. I know I’m also leaking in other aspect of my game, but this is a leak I’ve was able to identify in this session.

Hello…..I went to play yesterday at HG. Poker is definitely a lot more fun with you’re running very well. I think I got AA about 3 times. 1st time I flopped a set and turned a boat, with only 1 A left in the deck, someone still manages to call me all the way down. The game was great. The 2nd time I noticed a player that was short stack and he’s also pretty loose aggressive, noticed he was going to 2bet preflop, so I limped in, he 2bet, and I got to 3bet the hand. Of course this is HG, so it got capped. I don’t know how correct it is to capped preflop yourself when you know another player will capped it anyhow. It is however something I’ll have to think about on the flop as the person who capped generally would have a pocket pair (low to medium), suited connectors, and maybe Axs. We saw the flop 4 handed and it was Kx 8x 10x, I betted out the flop and got 2bet by the loose aggressor on the button. At this point I wasn’t sure what he really had, but I figured he’s not totally insane, so I gave him credit for Kx perhaps even AK. I 3bet and he capped it. The other 2 players between us still called. The turn came Jx….definitely didn’t like the turn the small blind checks and I thought for awhile and decided the turn was very bad for me, therefore I checked…..my loose aggressor bet the turn and the small blind checked-raised…..ahhhhhhh at this point I had to figure my hand was no good, the pot was quite large, I eventually folded…the river came X and everybody checked to the loose aggressor on the button who betted and didn’t get called…took down the pot. After the hand was over he stated he had AK. Errrrrrr i asked the small blind why he check raised the turn and he told me he had an opened ended straight draw and a flush draw (was backdoor on the flop) errrrrrr I don’t know if what he did was correct but it sounds strange. All and all it was a great session won a lot of pots, and saw a lot of the junk cards i folded flopped monsters.
